The beauty of living where we are is the ability to walk in any direction, from our front door, and find ourselves in fantastic countryside.
If you use the brilliant (and usually free) ViewRanger phone app, you can follow the route from here.
Just across the road from us is Cotton Dell, a path, running alongside the delightful Cotton Brook.
At the top of The Dell is the workshop of Fantasy Wire.
The artist who works here makes the most amazing wire sculptures. Some of which you pass on this walk. His website shows them in great detail, but here’s one of his fairies.
Having spent five minutes enjoying the view (that’s code for resting) we joined The Staffordshire Moorlands Walk up to Whiston, with great views across the valley, on the way.
On the return journey, after passing field after field of sheep and very young lambs, we came across this incredibly friendly but muddy sheepdog 🙂
After that, it was downhill all the way back to Oakamoor, through the churchyard and back up Star Bank for a well-earned cup of tea (but no scones).
