What is a B&B? Is it the same as an AirBnB? What’s the difference between a Hotel and a Bed & Breakfast? Therese are all great questions.

First of all, let’s get one thing out of the way.

AirBnB is a company that sells accommodation. It does not own any property of its own. The same as Booking.con and all the other online travel agents (OTAs). They don’t own any accommodation.

They are there to make it easier for you to find somewhere to stay. It’s convenient.
The price of that convenience? Well, they charge us (the owners of the accommodation) between 15% and 20% commission every time you book through them, instead of booking directly through the hotel, B&B or whoever’s own website.

Who ends up paying for this convenience?  YOU DO.

OK. We’ve got that out of the way, let’s look at what makes a B&B different.

Personalized Service

One of the main advantages of staying in a B&B is the personalized service that you will receive. Unlike hotels, which can be impersonal and often have a large staff, B&B owners are usually the ones who will welcome you upon arrival and take care of your needs throughout your stay.

They are often more invested in making sure that you have a comfortable and enjoyable experience and will go out of their way to accommodate your needs. For example, if you have dietary restrictions, a B&B owner will be able to prepare a special breakfast for you if you notify them in advance.

Quaint Atmosphere

B&Bs are often located in historic buildings or homes that have been converted into accommodation. This can give them a unique charm and atmosphere that is difficult to find in a standard hotel. Many B&Bs have cosy common areas where guests can relax and socialize, such as a living room with a fireplace or a garden. This can create a more relaxed and intimate environment that is ideal for couples or families.

Affordable Prices

Another advantage of staying in a B&B is that they are often more affordable than hotels. This is especially true if you are travelling with a group or family, as B&Bs often offer rooms that can accommodate multiple people at a lower cost than booking several hotel rooms. Additionally, B&Bs may include extras such as breakfast and parking in their room rates, which can help you save money.

Have you ever stayed in a city centre hotel then found you had to pay another £5 to £20 extra for parking? Yep, us too.

Delicious Breakfast

One of the best things about staying in a B&B is the breakfast. Unlike hotels, which may offer a basic continental breakfast, B&Bs often serve a delicious and hearty breakfast that is made from scratch. This can include items such as fresh fruit, and locally sourced ingredients like sausages from the local butcher.

Breakfast is often served in a communal dining area, which can be a great opportunity to meet other guests and share travel tips.

Local Knowledge

B&B owners are often locals themselves, and they have a wealth of knowledge about the area. They can provide insider tips on the best places to eat, things to see, and hidden gems that are off the beaten path. This can help you make the most of your visit to the area and ensure that you have an authentic experience.

Unique Rooms

B&Bs often have unique and individually decorated rooms that can add to the overall experience of your visit. For example, you may be able to stay in a room that has a four-poster bed, antique furnishings, or a balcony with a view. This can be a nice change of pace from the standard hotel room and can make your visit more memorable.

Quiet Location

While some hotels can be quite busy and noisy, especially those at Alton Towers, B&Bs are often located in quieter, more residential areas. This can provide a more peaceful environment for guests who want to relax after a long day. Additionally, B&Bs are often located in scenic areas with beautiful views, which can add to the overall experience of your visit.

In conclusion, staying in a B&B can be a great choice. B&Bs offer personalized service, a quaint atmosphere, affordable prices, delicious breakfast, local knowledge, unique rooms, and a quiet location.

If you are looking for an alternative to a traditional hotel and want a more authentic and personalized experience, then staying in a B&B may be the perfect choice for your visit. With its charm, warmth, and local knowledge, a B&B can help you create unforgettable memories and a truly unique experience.
